Welcome Students and Parents!

I'm excited to start a new year with you all!  My family and I moved to Salem from Albuquerque, New Mexico, last year and we love it here so far!  The people are wonderful and the climate and environment are paradise for us!

At Leslie Middle School, this will be my second year teaching and facilitating the Connected Mathematics 2 Program, which is a mathematics program quite different from traditional models.  Having been trained and experienced in the use of this program, I stand by it as an effective way to understand and apply math concepts and skills.  Students become active learners and take part in their learning, which is very important!

My classes will trying something new this year as part of an action research project.  In order to achieve at high levels in math, we will be using and evaluating a continuous improvement plan.  This plan is designed for students, teacher, and administrators to collect, evaluate, and use data to guide our learning and work toward proficiency.  It's a model that I've seen work many times in other places, and I'm excited to see it's impact here.

Thanks to our new master schedule (yay!), homework will rarely be assigned, and while homework shouldn't take very long, it is very important for reflecting and practicing what we learned that day.  Please be an active part of your child's math learning by making sure that they do their homework and share with you what they're learning.

I am always available by email to answer questions and discuss classroom issues with you!  Please feel free to email me anytime about anything.  I will answer as quickly as I am able.  I also appreciate all opportunities to meet with parents and will keep my schedule flexible so that we can meet.  Simply send me an email telling me that you would like to meet, and we'll set up a time.

I look forward to a fun and successful year!
